10 Reasons
for Having a
Golden

10. There is absolutely NOTHING better than sitting
by a warm firewith a sleepy golden retriever draped
over you.
9. As soon as you start to read, or take a sip of wine,
the sleepy golden
retriever's head will
pop up and a) knock your book to the floor, or
b) spill red wine on your chair.
The golden will then smile and you will smile back.
8. Golden retriever love is exponential;
whatever you give them comes back in
multiples.
7. There is no day bad enough that it's effects can't be immediately banished
by a
wag, a smile, a lick and a golden "hug".
6. Goldens are energy efficient; you can turn
your heat down another 5 degrees at night when
you have golden bedwarmers.
5. Goldens are the great social equalizers.
You can't go anywhere with a golden without
attracting people from all walks of life.
4. If you have a golden, you don't need a health club!
3. Goldens are great therapists; it's hard to think too
much about yourself when you're pinned to the
floor being violently nosed and licked.
2. Goldens are great marriage counselors;
when your golden nervously leaves the room or
nudges you, check your tone of voice!
1. There is no more profoundly warm feeling than
feeling loved by a
Golden.

A Place for All His
Tribe
The Assiniboine Chief Grey Wolf, was rewarded for his
valour by being called to the hunting grounds of the Gods.
He set out
toward the setting sun with his wife and sons and his dog. The trail was
difficult, and one by one his sons fell behind. Finally his wife stumbled
and fell, returning to
find her sons.
Grey Wolf continued to the call of the Gods, followed by
his faithful dog.
When he arrived at the hunting ground of the gods,
the
Great Spirit asked "Where is your family ?" :
Grey Wolf said " They had tired and fallen asleep on
the
way."
" Who is the little shadow following you ?"
asked the Great Spirit.
" It is my dog, and he has never left my side."
answered
Grey Wolf.
" Let Him enter " said the Great
Spirit, " for he has earned
his place, and a place for all of His
Tribe, in the Land of Shadows."

Service: "Kelsie" from Toms River, NJ

Kelsie, a 5-year-old West Highland White Terrier, is a
certified Medical Response Service Dog for Loren Marino.
She has given a renewed
spirit of independence and
confidence to Ms. Marino who suffers from several
life-threatening conditions.
Kelsie monitors her and signals in a variety of
specific ways
when there is a medical emergency. In addition, she can
activate
medical alert systems, retrieve resuscitating medication
or human assistance. As
a Lieutenant Commander for the
U.S. Navy, Ms. Marino trained dogs for the
military before being severely wounded in the line of duty. She used her
extensive experience to train Kelsie, teaching her to
perform more than 200
tasks such as retrieving objects, and operating handicap doors, levers and
buttons.
The pair are committed to educating the public about the
medical and
psychological value of service dogs through
frequent demonstrations in schools,
community centers and corporate offices. They are also dedicated visitors to
local
nursing homes where Kelsie's magnetic personality brings
joy to the oldest
and frailest members of the community.
Kelsie, who is now a mother of two
certified service dogs,
has helped Ms. Marino to realize that even with
limitations,
one can still live life to its fullest.
